There are many ways to travel. And there is a time and place for each. I recently reached out to a bespoke travel concierge on behalf of a client. See how it can help you too!

There is a wide spectrum of travel planning assistance available. While studies have shown that the planning and anticipation of a trip can actually be more enjoyable than the trip itself, even “indie travelers” can benefit from some of these services on occasion.
I was recently planning a trip for a client and kept running into a brick wall. As part of a month-long multi-continent trip, she had to travel between two specific cities on one specific date. Both cities have flights to relatively few destinations, and definitely none connecting them. And, she prefers to fly at least business class.
So, I started looking for flights for her. The whole trip is only about 1500 miles as the crow flies. But, the best that I was able to find was two layovers with a total travel time of about 18 hours! (Also, this was going to include an economy leg since business class would have put the travel time closer to 30 hours and make her miss the start of her tour on the other end.) And, even those I couldn’t book as one booking since they weren’t with the same alliance. So, this would mean that she would have to gather her luggage and check-in anew at each stop–and run the risk of missing connections and being stuck.
She was fine with this option since it was the only one. But she was concerned about the “self-transfer” aspect. Delays, cancellations, and lost luggage have become rampant. If any of this happens on a self-transfer flight, you’re on your own to rebook or get your luggage delivered.
True Confessions: Forgotten Luggage
So, I reached out to a couple different travel agents. One could only book if there was a US component–which there wasn’t. Next. The other actually found a better option and said she’d reach out to the airline to get a special waiver to have the airline transfer the luggage due to “extenuating circumstances”. This was exciting as it would bring the total travel time down to only about 10 hours and she would not have any hassle!
Twenty-Four hours later, and the airline said “no”. This made this itinerary no longer an option since the connection was not long enough for customs, immigration, and a terminal change. So back to the drawing board.
Enter the Bespoke Travel Concierge
I reached out to a bespoke travel concierge about the 10 hour option. Maybe he could book it? 🤷♀️Not only was he able to book it on one itinerary–and therefore all luggage and transfers are the responsibility of the airline–but it was business class and less expensive than anything anybody else had found!
But, she decided not to go with this option…instead she decided to book a private jet through the travel concierge and go from Point A to Point B directly in less than four hours. She won’t even have to get to the airport early or wait for her luggage at the other end. She’ll be door to door in less than five hours. Yes, it’s more expensive than any of the other options. And yes, it’s a luxury that not everyone can afford. And even for those that can afford it, it doesn’t always make sense.
As Michael from Silverwing Travel told me, “flying private on long haul flights is usually about scheduling”. But there are so many benefits to using a travel concierge beyond just booking luxury flights. A travel concierge is a professional who specializes in making travel arrangements and personalized itineraries for their clients.
Personalized Service
One of the primary benefits of using a bespoke travel concierge is the personalized service they provide. A travel concierge will work with you to understand your preferences, interests, and requirements, and tailor your travel itinerary accordingly. They will also take into account any special requests you may have, such as dietary requirements or specific activities you would like to do. This level of personalization ensures that your trip is truly unique and tailored to your needs.
Time Saving
Planning a trip can be time-consuming, with a lot of research and coordination required. A travel concierge can take care of all the planning and logistics, saving you valuable time. They will handle everything from booking flights and accommodation to arranging transportation and activities, leaving you free to focus on enjoying your trip.
Insider Knowledge
A travel concierge has insider knowledge of the destinations they work with. They have extensive experience and local connections that enable them to offer expert advice on the best places to visit, the most convenient transportation options, and the best restaurants and activities. This knowledge can help you avoid tourist traps and experience the destination like a local.
Emergency Assistance
One of the most valuable benefits of using a bespoke travel concierge is the emergency assistance they can provide. Travel can be unpredictable, and unexpected events can occur at any time. A travel concierge is available 24/7 to offer support and assistance if something goes wrong. They can help with last-minute changes, cancellations, or emergencies, ensuring that your trip runs smoothly.

Cost Effective
Contrary to popular belief, using a travel concierge can be cost-effective. A travel concierge has access to exclusive deals, discounts, and upgrades that are not available to the general public. They can also help you save money by creating a travel itinerary that maximizes your time and minimizes unnecessary expenses.
Using a bespoke travel concierge can make all the difference in creating a unique, personalized, and stress-free travel experience. From personalized service and insider knowledge to time-saving and emergency assistance, a travel concierge can help you make the most of your trip while saving you time and money. If you are planning a trip soon, consider using a travel concierge to make your experience unforgettable.
From the most independent travelers to those that need every detail planned for them, a good travel concierge service is worth its weight in gold. What would be the biggest benefit for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
